The University of New Mexico Lobo Men's Soccer team continued to build on the precedence of success with the historic 2012 season. UNM reached the “The Sweet 16” of the NCAA Tournament for the second-consecutive year with a 17-4-1 record. The Lobos finished their season ranked in the top 10 in the country in all three major polls, and the team won its eighth regular season MPSF Conference title, 11th overall. New Mexico made its tenth NCAA Tournament appearance in the past 12 seasons, and its fourth "Sweet 16" appearance (2004, 2005, 2011 and 2012). Also in 2005, the Lobos advanced to the National Championship game for the first time in program history.
Three Lobos were selected in the MLS Draft with Blake Smith going to the Montreal Impact, Devon Sandoval to Real Salt Lake and Nik Robson to Toronto F.C. New Mexico was one of seven programs in the country to have three players drafted in 2013.
The program continues to set the bar academically. The team had a 3.43 gpa for the Fall semester, which was one of the highest semester gpa’s in program history. Levi Rossi repeated as an Academic All-American, and Kyle Venter was selected as a NSCAA Scholar All-American.
