The University of New Mexico Lobo Men's Soccer team continued to build on the precedence of success with the historic 2013 season. UNM was one of 3 teams to reach the Sweet 16 for 3 years in a row, they also reaced the Final 4 for the second time in the last eight years. UNM ended the year with a 14-6-2 record, and finished 3rd in the Nation according to TopDrawer Soccer and finished 4th according to CollegeSoccerNews. New Mexico made its 12th NCAA Tournament appearance in the past 13 seasons, and its fourth "Sweet 16" appearance (2004, 2005, 2011, 2012 and 2013). Also in 2005, the Lobos advanced to the National Championship game for the first time in program history.
Four Lobos were selected in the MLS Draft with Venter going to the LA Galaxy, Kafari going to the Vancouver Whitecaps, Lisch going to the Houston Dynamo and Calderon going to the Vancouver Whitecaps. One of four programs in the nation to have four MLS Draft picks.
The program continues to set the bar academically. The team had a 3.43 GPA for the Fall semester, which was one of the highest semester gpa’s in program history. The program also received the NSCAA Team Academic Award.
